Adamawa begins Aerial Spray of Quelea birds

by Seun

The Adamawa state government has commenced the aerial spraying of quelea birds damaging crops and farmlands across 12 local government areas of the state, especially reverine communities.

At the flag off ceremony that took place at Yola international airport yesterday, Governor Muhammed Jibrilla said the purpose of the spray of chemicals in the 12 local government areas menaced by the birds was to ensure farmers harvest their crops without any loss. He said “the plight of the farmers who are an integral part of the masses that voted this administration must be squarely addressed…it is in the light of this that we are gathered here today to redeem our unflinching support to the masses of this state”. He continued by stating that his administration is purely for the masses, therefore anything that affects them touches the government.

He however appealed to all farmers in the affected areas to report promptly the migration of the birds and also enjoined them to keep their food stuffs covered to avoid the effect of the chemicals used in the spray. The governor admonished the people of the state to continue to keep faith with the administration, adding that tractors and other farm implements have been procured and distributed to farmers to boost agriculture in the state.
