Major highlights from the statement by Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on the continuous voter registration exercise at the press conference held in Abuja on 13th April.
CVR Exercise Timeline
The CVR exercise started June 28th, 2021 with a one year timeline broken into four quarters. The fourth and final quarter started April 11th and ends on June 30th, 2022.
Data Cleaning
After a data clean up by INEC, nearly 45% of completed registrations nationwide are invalid, rising to as high as 60% or more in some States.
These invalid registrations will not be included in the Register of Voters.
Printed PVCs for Collection
INEC has printed 1,390,519 PVCs for genuine new registrants. In addition, 464,340 PVCs for verified applicants for transfer or replacement of cards have been printed. A total of 1,854,859 PVCs are now ready.
The Printed PVCs will be available for collection by the actual owners in person immediately after the Easter holiday.
The available PVCs only cover those who registered in the First and Second Quarters of the exercise (June 28th – Dec 30th, 2021).
Osun and Ekiti Registered Voters
All registered voters in Osun and Ekiti states will get their PVCs before their Governorship elections.
Parties should adhere strictly to the 2023 election timelines.
Deadline for party primaries remains June 3rd and 10 political parties have served notices to INEC for the conduct of their primaries.
