To further reiterate its vision towards inspiring a generation of equipped leaders committed to social and economic development in Africa, The Future Project sets to launch a project on Local Government Performance Report.
Local government administration is meant to pivot public goods and developmental projects to people at the grassroots, who may never have the platform to make known their demands to the state governments. However, development has not thrived up to public expectations at the grassroots level due to the lack of open, transparent and accountable local government administration in Nigeria.
This vague structure makes citizens’ demands difficult at this level. People do not have basic information about how LGAs work, their local government chairmen, the annual budget of the LGAs, allocations, and the project embarked on by the Local government.
Hence, The Future Project, through its YMonitor accountability project, has introduced the Local Government Performance Survey & Report to address these issues by surveying to assess the delivery of effective service and to gauge the knowledge of the Local government administration by citizens.
The overall aim of the project is to empower citizens with information to engage local government stakeholders and to create a culture that emphasises citizens demand to know what the government is doing without any fear or hesitation. The project, which would be held both online and offline, is targeted at Lagos state, which is the economic capital of the nation.
With a track record of championing advocacy for an effective local government administration through projects such as advocacy for Local Government Autonomy, organising Local/Grassroots Engagement, & publication of several contents on the importance of local government assessment, the Future Project is committed to inspiring a generation of equipped leaders committed to social and economic development in Africa.
