Naija-o-Cracy, any better way to describe the system? A system that continuously feeds the insatiable rich despite their cups running over. This is Naija-o-Cracy, where more power means more greed, more avenues to lavish the nation’s commonwealth to the detriment of the masses.
Regardless of the democratic provisions in Nigeria, good governance has never been a thing to reckon on. Perhaps, it was a mere ‘Naija-o-cratic’ provision which includes economic inequality that has basically deprived a number of citizens access to and participation in government. This economic inequality is not limited to poverty, high rate of unemployment, among others.
In general, it’s no doubt that good governance has been a mirage in Nigeria, despite the provisions for democracy and rule of law. The reflection of this is the blatant negative index of Nigeria in the evaluation of good governance, this is due to different sociopolitical and economic problems, such as electoral malpractices, corruption, unemployment, low quality of life, declining economic growth etc.
We can do better.
