Accountability shouldn’t be demanded only at the upper echelon of government; it must be carried out in all tiers of governance, not excluding any sector.
On July 8th, 2022, Ymonitor volunteers embarked on a local government assessment drive where they went round Cross River state, journeying across the 18 local governments in the region, meeting different demographics of the residents to gather insights into the performance of the local government authorities in the state.
Although similar efforts are being carried out in other states in the country across the six regions, the Cross River Local Government Performance Report (LGPR) is the second release by YMonitor.
Many efforts went into going to the average Nigerian on the streets of Cross River, seeking their opinions on salient issues in their respective wards, compiling all these data, and making concrete conclusions and recommendations on revamping the whole local government system in the state and Nigeria.
We hope all Nigerians, irrespective of their strata, find this report a game changer that should spearhead accountability in the local government sector.
