BOLD CLAIMS THAT HOLD NO WATER.

by Eyo Emmanuel

This government’s bold unrealistic claims is the gift that keeps on giving, just when we were still trying to wrap our heads around Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity’s statement on how the country is safer than it was before this administration. Now the new one is the President claiming to have raised five million Nigerians out of poverty through his National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) over the last three years.

Five million out of poverty within the last three years, yet within the last year we dropped to the world’s poverty capital. The World Poverty Clock estimates that about 93.7million Nigerians live in extreme poverty. Now if the president’s claims are anything to go by, that means he has managed to save 5.4 percent from poverty which is not even up to one tenth of the 93.7 million people living in poverty, however this government feels they need a standing ovation for their minuscule accomplishment.

Clearly someone needs to educate the presidency what percentage constitutes as a pass mark because 5.4 percent an obvious F for effort.
