Challenges of Universal Basic Education in Nigeria

Education in Nigeria is in a mess from top to bottom.

As the level of educational development of a country has a substantial effect on its national development. It is essential to dwell on the Universal Basic Education challenges in Nigeria.

The Federal Government launched the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme to ensure greater access to quality primary education throughout Nigeria. However, it has failed to achieve its aim.

The Universal Basic Education came as a replacement to Nigeria’s universal primary education system of the 6-3-3-4 system of primary education.

The UBE, 9-3-4 system of education was designed in conformity with the MDGs & Education for All (EFA) Policy Initiatives; which projected education as a fundamental human right.

Although the UBE has been hailed as a more effective scheme to realise the MDGs & EFA goals, it presents some challenges.

We, therefore, deemed it necessary to present the challenges faced by the UBE.

What are your thoughts on these challenges?
