EFCC monitor: EFCC releases Obanikoro and Reuben Abati

by Usman Alabi

The former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro has been released by the EFCC.

The Punch newspaper reported that Obanikoro was released at about 5p.m. Friday, he immediately left for his home, the paper said. Punch added that the former Minister had met all his bail conditions on Thursday night and the commission was processing his release.

Obanikoro was arrested on October 17 after returning from the United States on fraud allegations, he was accused of receiving N4.7 billion through the ONSA in 2014.

The Commission had also released the former media aid to ex President Jonathan, Reuben Abati. The punch confirmed that he was released at about 8p.m yesterday. Reuben Abati had earlier submitted his passport to the EFCC.

Yet the question is, could it be that the EFCC is only interested in getting the looted funds back, and not in the prosecution of these defaulters, even after they confessed their complicity in the act? Is this the right away to go, let us have your comment on this issue.
