Kano allocates N2.6 billion to education in two months

The Kano state government spends N2.6 billion on education in two months.

This was disclosed by the State’s commissioner for information, culture, Youth and Sports, Alhaji Mohammed Garba. He disclosed this to journalist in Abuja at the weekend. He said the disbursement was in line with the resolve of the current administration to create the enabling environment for both teachers and students in various institutions of learning to excel in their respective endeavours.

A breakdown of the disbursement reveals that over N246 million was allocated to examination bodies such as National Examination Council (NECO), West African Examination Council (WAEC), the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), as well as internal examinations prepared by the Kano Education Resource Department (KERD). N404 million was also disbursed for the accreditation of tertiary institutions like the Kano state university of Technology (KUT), Kano State Polytechnic, and College of Agriculture.

The commissioner also stated that over N589 million was spent on school feeding in primary and secondary schools, he added that from the amount, the Kano State Schools Management Board (KSSMB) got N383 million, Science secondary schools were allocated N106 million.

The commissioner said that “We spent the sum of N2.3 billion on the payment of primary school teachers and another N700 to pay our teachers in secondary schools in the state.

“This is in addition to the payment of scholarship to both our students pursuing higher degrees both here in Nigeria and abroad. We spent N75 million on our external students, another N70 million on those in france, N79 million on those studying in Cyprus, N33.8 million on our students in Egypt, and then N50 million on those here in Nigeria and N79 million.”
