#Lagostracker: Ijagemo community seeks government help on bad road–Pictures

by Ajadi Daniel

Ijagemo is one of the communities on the fringes of Lagos, and like most communities at the periphery of states in the country, they have no access to basic government infrastructures, they cannot boast of a two hours straight power supply in a day,. Their road is one of the worst in the state, and there seems not to be presence of government except when it comes to payment of taxes and tenement rates.

The people of the community have been calling on the state government to address the situation of the only road that connects them to the world.

The Ijagemo road is one of the longest inner roads in Lagos state, the road is a link road and it is said to connect the community to trade fair. It is believed to be very strategic, this the state is aware of, and they have been making promises that the situation of the road would be looked into. The road is not better even in dry seasons, as every part of the road is laden with pit like potholes.

It becomes worse in rainy seasons , as vehicular movement is almost impossible. Vehicle owners park their cars at Ijegun or at few sections of the road where the water has receded. The community leader said there was a time the project was included in the budget, but it was not executed. He said that at a time, government officials claimed the project is outrageous, not only because of the length of the road but also because of the what it would cost the government to fix it.

The people of this community are calling on the government to come to their aid. It is believed that the project will be a win win situation for both the community and the state as a whole since the road links a major trade centre.

If the state consider the project too big, it is advisable it implement it in phases, so as to bring development to this sequestered community.
