NIGERIAN GRADUATE: FUTURE SO BRIGHT I NEED SHADES.

by Eyo Emmanuel

There’s something in the air this season, and no, it’s not the unpredictable rain that comes along with summer in this part of the world, but celebration as graduation season is upon us. Another set of hopeful graduates are being let out into the real world with lofty dreams of landing their dream jobs, earning mouth watering salaries, and getting perks such as paid leave and a company car. I chuckle in Swahili.

The latest statistics by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics puts unemployment in Nigeria at 23.1 percent. This begs the question if truly there’s much to look forward to after graduation for our graduates. I guess it’s safe to say graduates need to start dreaming more realistically; dream of the job that they hope to land after school and of the side hustle that may come in handy if the dream job is all but that, a dream.
