Universal Basic Education Commission and Sokoto state have allotted N3.6 billion to rehabilitate 235 primary schools.
Another N100 million is earmarked for school feeding in the state. UBEC executive secretary in the state, Faruk Shehu said the school feeding is aimed at shoring up enrolment, retention and completion.
Concerning the rehabilitation of primary schools, he explained that N1.6 billion was for the UBEC and the state government joint venture 2015 intervention projects and N2 billion for the joint venture projects for 2016. According to him, N1.6 billion was jointly contributed by the commission and the state government. He said that some of the projects had been completed while others are at various stages of completion.
On the N2 billion, he disclosed that the state government had released its counterpart fund of N1 billion but awaiting that of UBEC. He also revealed that a block of three classrooms was being constructed by the state government in 21 primary schools in Sokoto at the cost of over N10 million each as well as rehabilitating three primary schools, one in each of the three senatorial zones.
The three schools are located in Tambuwal, Gada and Sokoto north local government areas
