Contrary to reports that the ban placed on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) was for them to have further training on how to conduct themselves with regards to their job, the governor has cleared the air by reiterating the fact that the ban is permanent.
The governor stated this at the commissioning of the Ojodu berger pedestrian bridge, lay-bys, slip-road and segregated bus park on Tuesday.
“Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, let me use this opportunity to reiterate that Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) have been asked to stay off our roads permanently. We also advise the Federal Road Safety Corps to stay on the fringes and highways and not on the main streets of Lagos. It has become evident that these agencies contribute to the traffic challenges on our roads. We will employ technology to track and monitor vehicle registration and MOT certifications”, he said.
The reason for these may not be unconnected to the complaints from the general public on the activities of the officers of the VIO and the report about the vehicle belonging to a painter that got burnt in their office.
