YMonitor Poll: As the 2019 election draws near, what issues do you think candidates at all levels should focus on?

The 2019 general polls will be holding from February 16 starting with the presidential elections and National Assembly elections, followed by the Governorship and State Assembly/Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council elections on the 16th of March. Some candidates have declared their intention to run for the various public offices in the federation, and the election atmosphere earnestly began with party primaries holding to determine flag-bearer candidates.

In preparation for the 2019 general elections, YMonitor launched a public opinion poll targeting youths on social media to understand what will inform their voting decisions. The question asked was “As the 2019 elections draws near, what issues do you think candidates at all levels should focus on?”.

The poll, which lasted for 24 hours received 267 responses, and the results showed that 28% of respondents viewed corruption and insecurity as critical issues candidates should focus on, 36% of respondents favored economic development while 33% want the candidates to focus on jobs and social security, a meagre 3% of respondents were undecided.

Interestingly, some respondents continued the conversation by highlighting other issues they feel the candidates should consider .
