Senator Ubali Shittu, representing Jigawa North has disclosed that the Federal Government has earmarked N285 million in the 2017 fiscal year for flood and grass control at the Hadejia Valley project. He said this at a town hall meeting on Thursday on Hadejia.
He said N100 million was for the control of the ravaging typher grass on the river, while N160 million was for construction of drains in flood-prone communities.
He added that N25 million was earmarked for the construction of channels to ease the flow of water to farms and for domestic use.
He explained that “the projects are to control perennial flooding due to blockage of the river by grass and to encourage irrigation activities.”
