The residents of Kwara State have decried the performance of local government administrations in dissatisfaction with the state of governance at the grassroots.

This was made known recently in a performance report published by YMonitor which examined the delivery of public goods and services by local councils in Kwara State.

YMonitor is an accountability project under The Future Project (TFP) which is a developmental organisation dedicated to building a network of empowered citizens through jobs, entrepreneurship and active citizenship.

It would be recalled that in March 2021, the Kwara State government appointed 16 Transition Implementation Committee (TIC) chairpersons for the local government administration in the state.

The TICs were inaugurated to hold forth pending the conduct of local government elections in the state. However, the legality of the TIC has been contested in courts since the inauguration.

The report, which was based on a local government performance survey, revealed that most Kwara State residents were unaware of the activities of their local governments.

Using a Net Promoter Score test, the survey reported a negative recommendation rating for local government chairpersons in the State, thereby reflecting the dissatisfaction of the people with their local administrators.

The report further established that despite a high rate of political participation among the people, the failure of local government administrations has affected the relevance of local government to the people.

The survey recommended the election of local government authorities and implementation of mechanisms to check corruption in local councils across the state among others. The full report can be gotten here
