EFCC monitor: I will repay N450 million in 2017-Obanikoro

by Usman Alabi

The former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro returned N30 million to the EFCC on Monday. This brings the total amount of money he has returned to N134 million.

The punch newspaper reported based on a source at the EFCC that Obanikoro presented a draft of about N30m.

The former Minister had earlier in October returned N104m to the anti-graft agency. He was asked to return about N584m out of which he had already returned N134m. He promised the detectives at the EFCC office that he would return the remaining N450 million in 2017

This further lay claim to the fact that the federal government is not interested in punishing those guilty of stealing public funds, the state is only interested in getting back the funds. But this cannot in anyway put an end to corruption, except if that is not our goal. If we must reduce corruption to the barest minimum, we must begin to punish offenders. It is even more important that the government consider doing this if we must lay a good precedence for the upcoming generation.

Do you agree with us on this issue, that except we begin to punish offenders, we might not be able to nip corruption in the bud
