The 3050 mega watts Mambila Hydro Power Project will be ready in the next 63 months, Mustapha Baba Shehu, Minister of State for Finance, has said.
The Minister speaking yesterday at the launching of the China Gezhouba Group Company Limited (CGGC) North-west Africa regional headquarters, in Abuja, The Minister acknowledged the effort of the company in mobilizing to site for the construction of the hydropower project which will add 3050 to the National grid. CGGC is one of the major contractors of the Mambila project.
According to the Minister, “The contractor and its partner will make this to happen in the next 63 months. Over 6 billion dollars is being invested in this project, 85% of which will come from the Exim Bank of China and 15% from the government of Nigeria”
The Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Fashola before now stated that the Mambila project would be the single largest power plant with over 3000 MW in one place and has the potential of taking the country close to steady power.
President Buhari early this year promised speedy completion of this project and expressed his disappoint at the inability of the previous administration to honour their part of the agreement with China on projects such as the Mambilla.
