#Kadunatracker: Kaduna earmarks N2.55 billion on drones and other security equipments in 2017

by Ajadi Daniel

Kaduna government earmarks N2.55 billion on drones and CCTV cameras to provide adequate security for the state in 2017.

N1.5 billion of the amount  is meant for the procurement and installation of CCTV cameras in strategic areas of the state to reduce crime. Report from the News Agency of Nigeria has it that N265 million was earmarked for the procurement of drones “to identify locations of armed bandits in forest reserves across the state.”

The sum of N193.6 million is also to be used to address the menace of kidnappers, according to the report, the monies would be used to procure geo-position interceptor and location GSM, UMTS system to check trends, intercept and locate kidnappers’ GSM calls while N600 million is set aside to set up forensic laboratory to assist in determining substantial evidence in cases that had proved difficult to solve.

Kaduna perhaps has every reasons to spend enormously on security in the coming years giving incessant case of insecurity and religious crisis in the state, the recent being the godogodo herdsmen disturbance. The Shiite case is still on and unresolved, Kaduna seems to be a hot belt or melting point of religious chasm leading to various contention and violence.

Do you think this is the way out of Kaduna security challenges.
