by Usman Alabi

Kaduna has been on the radar of Ymonitor, not only because of the projects being implemented but because it is one of the states that operate an open government system. Perhaps it is also one of the states with commendable budget performance, you might want to disagree with this, we would like to have your take.

Kaduna government has set the sum of N4 billion for the Kaduna Metropolitan Rapid Rail Transport project to kick start in 2017. The amount is supposed to be part of the N24.06 billion provided for projects under the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport in the 2017 budget.

The first phase of the Kaduna light rail project will link Rigachikun with the refinery. According to the government, funds for the intra city Kaduna light rail would be sourced from the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Kaduna government also voted N2, 445,160,730.00 for the ongoing state trunk road project while N7,705,788,694.58 would be spent on township road projects in the fiscal year. The break down of the budget also showed that the state government earmarked N1.5 billion for the construction and acquisition of new state government buildings while N500 million was earmarked for street light.
