YMonitor Quarterly Show: Continuous Voter Registration Challenges and Diaspora Voting

The YMonitor Quarterly Show for this quarter examined issues around the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) by the Independent National Electoral Commission and diaspora voting.

In June 2021, the electoral commission started an online voter registration for eligible voters to register and get their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in preparation for the 2023 general elections.

The CVR exercise also allows for the transfer of polling, replacing lost voters’ cards, and correcting incorrect details.

While many eligible voters have registered, several others are having challenges with the registration, leaving them to give up the hope of voting in the coming 2023 elections.

With less than two months to suspend the Continuous Voter Registration, we engaged the Lagos Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Olusegun Agbaje, on the challenges Nigerians faced during the voter registration processes.

Our guests spoke extensively on the challenges and what INEC is doing to ensure they are resolved. He also posited that the electoral body is ready to conduct diaspora voting if given the go-ahead and necessary resources.

Here is a recap of the show:
