Local governments in Nigeria are products of the Nigerian Constitution and are of vital significance to grassroots development. However, the absence of effective administrations has been a great obstruction to delivering their constitutional duties.
The jobs doled out to local governments by the Constitution is equivalent to those did by districts in developed nations such as the United States. In Nigeria, as the case may be, a more significant part of these capacities are executed on the state level, which brings about dissimilarity in the treatment of local governments.
The current local government framework in Nigeria is burdened with the absence of a talented labour force and experts that have the information and experience to propose and actualise groundbreaking thoughts, thereby affecting the delivery of public services for the wellbeing of citizens at the grassroots.
Given this, the Future Project/YMonitor has been pivotal in championing effective local government administration in Nigeria through her Local Government Performance Survey.
Launched on Tuesday, 11th May, the Future Project/YMonitor Local Government Performance Report has continued to wax stronger with a pool of dedicated research supports committed to championing effective delivery of public services across local governments in Lagos state.
YMonitor had recruited 40 volunteers as research supports in surveying the 20 local government areas in Lagos to have a representative report on local government performances.
