Today is day 3 of our count-down to the closure of IDP camps in Adamawa. You recall that the Adamawa State government promised to close down IDP camps in the State by the end of Januray.
It is imperative that the State consider this as a major priority, especially in light of the massive reduction in the activities of the Boko Haram terrorists and the return of peace to the erstwhile affected areas.
The government in the real sense of the matter especially given the state of the economy does not have the capacity to continue to cater for the people. If they continue to this, it also means that there are other things they could have diverted the funds to.
The best way to bring peace to a place is a strategy that is all-inclusive, which itself involve the people. Eventually it is imperative that the people go back to their community and take collective responsibility in partnership with the government to bring lasting peace to their communities.
There is no denying the fact that the successes recorded in the fight against Boko Haram would not have been without the support of the local and civilian JTF.
Hence, the State should take seriously its policy of closing down the IDPs by the end of January and should also begin to empower these people to contribute to the economy of the state as they would be returning back to their communities.
