All the figures of FG recovered loot- without names of the looters

President Muhammadu Buhari while in London on May 14 for an Anti-Corruption Summit promised to release the details of the funds Nigeria had so far recovered from looters- including the looters who returned the funds on May 29- the first anniversary of his democratic presidency.

The president however, broke his promise on May 29 ad failed to release the details of the looters.

Following heavy public backlash from the government’s failure to release details of the recovered funds, the government appeared to shift ground but only just a little.

On Saturday, June 4, the government fulfilled it promise partially by releasing the figures of the recovered loot but withholding the names of the said looters and how much was returned by them.

In the release which came from the Ministry of Information, a total cash amount N78,325,354,631.82, $185,119,584.61, £3,508,355.46 and €11, 250 were recovered between May 29, 2015 and May 25, 2016.

Also, total recoveries under interim forfeiture, which were a combination of cash and assets, during the same period amounted to N126,563,481,095.43, $9,090,243,920.15, £2,484,447.55 and €303,399.17.

Expected recoveries from foreign countries totaled $321,316,726.1, £6,900,000 and €11,826.11.

A total of 239 non-cash recoveries were made during the one-year period including farmlands, plots of land, uncompleted buildings, completed buildings, vehicles and maritime vessels.
