The Lagos state government has started the process of implementing its plan of moving the popular mile 12 market to another location entirely.
The project is a N1,500,000,000 project according to the Lagos 2017 budget.
The new location is at Imota, a small community in the outskirt of Ikorodu. Work has begun on the site, and it is expected to be completed some time next year, although there is no official statement regarding the date of completion. YMonitor gathered from sources at the site that the project is divided into two phases, and that the first phase would be completed in February next year.
It is also expected that the Lagos state government will extend the narrow road that leads to the market. This is needed to ease the heavy traffic that is expected when the project is completed.
The reason why the project is located at that particular place according to a source on the site, is probably because the state is trying to decongest the city centre and directing economic activities also to the peripheries.
